President Mamnoon Hussain on Friday signed the controversial Protection of Pakistan Bill 2014 into law, empowering Pakistan’s law-enforcement agencies to effectively counter terrorists activities all across the country.
The Senate and National Assembly have already passed the bill unanimously.
The bill provides for protection against waging of war or insurrection against Pakistan and prevention of acts threatening national security ans stability of the country.
The law provides unusual powers to army and law-enforcing institutions for operations against those involved in terrorism, money extortion and other crimes.
The law, valid for two years, comes to effect immediately following the signature of the President.
