GILGIT: A landslide blocked Baltistan Road near Shangus in Skardu’s Roundu Valley on Thursday, leaving thousands of passengers and tourists stranded on both sides.
The Gilgit-Baltistan Disaster Management Authority (GBDMA) said debris continued to slide at the site. Large boulders had blocked the road and prevented traffic from moving.
Heavy machinery could not clear the largest rocks. The Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) was mobilising a blasting team to remove them. GBDMA advised tourists and other travellers to avoid non-essential journeys.
It also warned people not to cross the landslide zone because more debris could fall. Travellers can call the police helpline at 15 before setting out for the latest road information.
