President Dr. Arif Alvi lauds the transformative strategies employed by the current caretaker federal government and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir for their focused efforts on fostering foreign investments through mutually beneficial joint ventures signify a pivotal shift towards reinforcing the nation’s economic pillars.

Despite the political tensions simmering from the May 9 riots, President Alvi, representing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), underscored the instrumental role of decisive leadership by the army chief and the interim government in steering the country toward a landscape of economic stability. This journey, though marked with challenges, reflects a concerted commitment to national interests.

Economic Revitalization through Law Enforcement and Community Engagement

General Munir’s firm stance, announced in September, to amplify law enforcement actions against a spectrum of illegal activities illustrates the government’s resolve to safeguard economic and societal security. This intensified approach, promoting synergy between law enforcement agencies (LEAs) and government departments, marks a cornerstone in Pakistan’s evolving economic narrative.

Addressing the attendees at the 15th Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP) Recognition Ceremony in Karachi, President Alvi commended the business community’s resilience and potential as a fundamental force in bolstering the economy. He celebrated REAP’s transformative influence, escalating rice exports from $300 million to a staggering $3 billion, and advocated for expanded ventures, particularly in developing value-added rice products.

In a unique cultural nod, the president praised the “Biryani Festival” initiative, offering the prestigious President House as a venue for this celebration of culinary heritage. He further emphasized revitalizing rice research institutions to solidify Pakistan’s competitive stance in international markets.

Towards a Progressive Future: Empowerment and International Solidarity

In response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, President Alvi expressed a stark condemnation, aligning with global appeals for peace and justice. This international outlook was mirrored in domestic policies, with the president advocating for the creation of market-oriented institutions, women’s workforce empowerment, and educational initiatives to equip the youth with the skillset essential for future challenges.

Sindh Governor Mohammed Kamran Khan Tessori, acknowledging rice as a crucial export, praised the COAS’s initiatives against economic adversities and border terrorism. He also conveyed a message of hope, citing improved law and order facilitated by actions against illegal immigration, and called for global unity against ongoing conflicts.

In conclusion, REAP Chairman Chela Ram Kewlani reaffirmed the association’s critical economic role, marking Pakistani rice’s international reputation. He advocated for official industry status for rice production and expressed concerns regarding export limitations imposed by the Minimum Export Price (MEP). His call for a dedicated Rice Research institution underscored the session’s collaborative spirit aimed at economic fortification.

The ceremony culminated in a tribute to the nation’s top rice exporters, honouring their contributions with awards presented by the president and Sindh governor, symbolizing a united front towards economic prosperity.
