Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has directed Television and FM Radio channels to stop airing advertisements marketing contraceptives, birth control and family planning products, according to a notification issued to all media outlets.
The notification said that the decision was taken in light of complaints received by PEMRA against undesired contraceptive commercials being broadcast on electronic media.
PEMRA has received complaints regarding advertising of contraceptive products being airedronic media.
“General public is very much concerned about the exposure of such products to innocent children, which get inquisitive on features and use of the products,” read the notification.
The notification further said parents had shown apathy on the advertisement of such products and demanded a ban on their airing.
PEMRA warned of legal actions under regulatory laws against media houses failing to follow the directives on such advertisements.
