Pakistani student breaks though Denmark’s grading scale record

A Pakistani student in Denmark has broken the country’s maximum grading scale of 12 to attain a massively  high average of 13.6.

Seven years ago, Jawad Shafique’s elder brother did the same with an average of 12.3 but this time it is him — the ‘wonder boy’ as his teachers fondly call him.

“It feels very good. I have had the intention to do well and I have finally succeeded in it,” said Jawad, who just graduated from Niels Brock Business College in the Danish capital of Copenhagen.

According to local broadcaster TV2, since the brothers were young, their parents told them to concentrate on their education and work hard to secure good grades.

“When they have a good education with high grades they can live their lives better,” said Jawad’s mother Nusrat Shafique.

“I am proud of my children. I am just so glad that they have done well. The best thing you can give your children is a good education,” she said.

The young graduate hopes that his education can lead him to turn his dream of getting a high position in the Danish business community into reality.

In 2009, Awais Shafique had graduated from Ishoj Technical College with an average of 12.3 but it did not scare Jawad, his younger brother.

“My brother got better grades than my sister, and then I just have secured better than him. I just pull myself together to do well,” said Jawad.

Jawad’s mother immigrated to Denmark as a seven-year-old. Nusrat works as a counselor in a Danish Bank while her husband, Mohammad Shafique, works as a consultant at Danfoss.

Jawad’s elder brother Awais was headhunted for a consultant position at Boston Consulting Group (BCG) after he completed his graduation in International Business from CBS.
