Pakistan to Launch Indigenous EO-1 Satellite

The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) announced it will launch the EO-1 Satellite on January 17. This indigenous satellite, developed by Pakistan, will be launched from China’s Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre, enhancing Pakistan’s space exploration capabilities.

SUPARCO stated, “Launching EO-1 reflects our commitment to advancing Pakistan’s space science and technological innovation.” This satellite marks a significant advancement in Pakistan’s space technology, aimed at improving resource management, disaster response, food security, and economic growth through informed decisions and sustainable development.

SUPARCO highlighted, “The EO-1 satellite will bring extensive benefits across multiple sectors.” In agriculture, it enables precision farming by monitoring crops, assessing irrigation needs, forecasting yields, and supporting food security initiatives.

For urban development, EO-1 will help manage infrastructure growth and urban sprawl and support city and regional planning.

In environmental monitoring and disaster management, it will provide updates on floods, landslides, earthquakes, deforestation, and soil erosion.

Additionally, it will aid in monitoring and conserving natural resources, including minerals, oil and gas fields, glaciers, and water bodies.
