Pakistan mediates Iran-US talks at a sensitive moment in the region, as Field Marshal Asim Munir and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Tehran with a delegation on Wednesday, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The visit is part of Pakistan’s broader effort to support dialogue between Tehran and Washington.
Upon arrival, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi received Field Marshal Asim Munir, highlighting the diplomatic weight of the visit. The development comes amid heightened regional tensions and continuing attempts to revive engagement between the United States and Iran.
The visit follows recent rounds of talks between Washington and Tehran that did not produce a breakthrough. Pakistan is positioning itself as a facilitator, aiming to reduce tensions and encourage a peaceful outcome through sustained diplomatic engagement.
Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said messages between the two sides had continued through Pakistan after the latest negotiations failed over the weekend. He stated in a weekly press briefing that several messages had been exchanged since the Iranian delegation returned to Tehran on Sunday.

The Tehran visit comes at a critical stage, with backchannel diplomacy still active despite the lack of a formal agreement. The report says the latest US-Iran negotiations in Pakistan took place against the backdrop of a fragile two-week ceasefire announced days earlier, but the talks did not end the war.
The same report adds that the talks lasted around 21 hours. The US delegation was led by Vice President JD Vance, while the Iranian side was led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
