US President Donald Trump said Pakistani leaders helped Washington conclude a Pakistan-Iran deal. He praised Field Marshal Asim Munir and Pakistan’s civilian leadership in an Axios interview published Friday.
Trump said Pakistan’s leaders “really helped” because they knew Iranian officials and understood the country. He described Munir as “a great leader” and said the Pakistani military chief respected the prime minister.
Axios has reported Pakistan’s mediation role in US-Iran diplomacy. This includes Munir’s visit to Tehran as part of efforts to advance talks between Washington and Iran.
Pakistan, whose capital is Islamabad, lies in South Asia and shares a border with Iran. Iran, whose capital is Tehran, is in West Asia and has been central to recent US diplomatic and military tensions.

Trump also linked Pakistan’s role in the Iran talks to his earlier claim. He stated that he helped stop fighting between Pakistan and India, two nuclear-armed states.
Trump repeated Pakistan’s claim that his intervention had saved millions of lives.
The Axios interview covered Iran, Israel, Cuba, artificial intelligence and presidential power. Trump presented the Iran agreement as a major foreign-policy achievement.
