Islamabad: The official visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Pakistan in coming weeks will mark the beginning of new geo-economic relations between the two countries, said Minister for Planning and Reforms Ahsan Iqbal on Wednesday.
Speaking on the launching ceremony of Pak-China Economic Corridor (PCEC) Council, the minister said that the corridor was not confined to a road or rail alignment.
“The corridor will complement other ports within and outside Pakistan through existing regional infrastructure,” he added.
The minister said that the project was a win-win for both countries, adding that: “Pakistan will become the hub of business and trade in Asia, and western China will penetrate into Asian and European markets. It will cater to the needs of all federating units of Pakistan through proper rail and road network and multiple projects on energy within the next three years.”
On the occasion, Chief Minister Balochistan Dr Abdul Malik said, “Gwadar, which means window of air, is now going to turn into window of opportunities.”
The port was for all and anybody could invest in it, he said.
Chinese ambassador Sun Weidong said that the corridor would further cement the relations of two countries. Senator Muhammad Talha Mahmood also spoke on the occasion.
