Pakistan celebrates its 77th Independence Day with great enthusiasm and national pride today. Streets across the country came alive with celebrations, starting at midnight on August 14, marked by vibrant fireworks displays.
In major cities like Karachi, Lahore, and Peshawar, the night skies were aglow with fireworks, symbolizing the nation’s joy and unity. Public and private buildings were festively decorated with colourful lights and the green crescent flag, showcasing Pakistan’s identity and aspirations.
Karachi’s beaches drew large crowds, while Lahore’s Minar-e-Pakistan in Greater Iqbal Park hosted a musical event, enhancing the festive atmosphere. The nation’s cultural and historical landmarks became the centres of celebration.
A dignified Independence Parade was held at the Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) in Abbottabad. Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir attended as the chief guest. The PMA cadets demonstrated their drill skills, honouring the nation’s martyrs who sacrificed their lives for freedom.
A significant celebration titled “Fard Nahi Qoom Hain Hum” (We Are a Nation, Not Individuals) was held at the Sindh Governor House in Karachi. The historic building was illuminated, and a 1,000-pound cake was cut to mark the occasion.
The UAE Consulate in Karachi participated in the festivities by hosting a ceremony where high-performance awards and certificates were given out. Notable figures like Asifa Bhutto Zardari and Faryal Talpur were in attendance.
In Peshawar, the Governor House hosted an Azadi Night Music Ceremony, attended by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi.
Smaller towns, such as Toba Tek Singh, also participated. The district administration organized a fireworks display at the local football ground, adding to the community’s celebration of Independence Day.
The nationwide celebrations reflect Pakistan’s unity and resolve to progress, honouring the sacrifices made for independence and celebrating the collective achievements over the past 77 years.
