Matthew McConaughey sings and plays mandolin on “Quill,” a new bluegrass soundtrack single released August 7 ahead of “The Rivals of Amziah King.”
The Apple Music listing credits actor McConaughey and musician Ben Hardesty as the performers. Lakeshore Records released the single under licence from Black Bear Releasing.
A performance clip posted by Entertainment Tonight shows McConaughey and Hardesty sharing vocals in a dining room. Actor Owen Teague plays the violin during the group performance.
Miranda Zickler, Andrea Pister and Angelina LookingGlass also contribute vocals, according to People. The Last Bison previously recorded the song, which Hardesty wrote.
McConaughey plays Amziah King, a musician and beekeeper who leads a bluegrass band in rural Oklahoma. His estranged foster daughter returns as competitors threaten his honey business, according to the official Black Bear synopsis.
Andrew Patterson directed the film, while James Montague wrote the screenplay. Angelina LookingGlass, Cole Sprouse, Scott Shepherd, Rob Morgan, Tony Revolori and Kurt Russell also star.
The film made its world premiere at the 2025 South by Southwest Film & TV Festival. Black Bear will open it in theaters on August 14.
