Mexico’s Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, revealed Netflix’s $1 billion pledge to produce series and films in Mexico over the next four years.
The announcement was made during President Claudia Sheinbaum’s “Mañanera del Pueblo” conference at Palacio Nacional, with Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos present.
Sarandos expressed his excitement: “President Sheinbaum, we share your vision of a thriving Mexico. “Netflix will invest $1 billion to create content here, boosting jobs and the audiovisual industry.” The move signals a major commitment to Mexican talent and stories.
Ebrard celebrated on X, posting: “Netflix announces $1 billion for Mexico with President Sheinbaum!” His video showed Sarandos confirming the investment, ending with Ebrard playfully saying “Ready” from Netflix-branded chairs—like a scene straight out of a film.

Sheinbaum hailed the decision. “Mexico’s greatness drew Netflix here,” she said. “This isn’t just about filming cheap scenes—it’s about creating original series and movies with Mexican talent.” She emphasized how this shifts production dynamics.
Netflix has already tapped Mexico for hits like Club de Cuervos, The House of Flowers, and films like Roma. Upcoming projects promise more. The $1 billion investment builds on this, aiming to spotlight local stories globally.
This investment marks a game-changer. It’s set to create jobs, fuel the economy, and showcase Mexico’s creative power. Series like Egg Eyes and movies like Pedro Paramo are just the start. Mexico’s streaming future looks bright.
