On Friday, Nawaz Sharif, leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), unexpectedly visited Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s home to invite his party into the government. Yet, the alliance faced hurdles as Rehman declined, pointing to electoral mandate issues.
The meeting, confirmed by social media posts and a video on platform X, saw attendance from high-profile members of both parties. Sharif’s team included Rana Sanaullah, Ahsan Iqbal, and others, while Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidari and several key figures represented JUI.
They discussed the political and domestic scene, with Sharif seeking Rehman’s backing for future leadership votes.
Rehman voiced concerns over electoral fairness, doubting his party’s mandate recognition. Despite Sharif’s negotiation attempts for government support and election endorsements, Rehman’s stance on electoral transparency and representation remained firm, rejecting the collaboration.
