The National Assembly of Pakistan recently updated its party positions, notably excluding the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) from the assembly.
An official petition to the Election Commission of Pakistan advocated seat allocations based on a quota system for specified parties. It was established that failure to submit a party list would disqualify a party from occupying the reserved seats.
After amendments to the Election Act, the Secretary of the National Assembly issued a new party position, reassigning PTI members to the Sunni Ittehad Council. This shift coincided with the reassignment of seats previously held by members of the PML-N, PPP, and JUI.

In a formal communication to the Chief Election Commissioner, Ayaz Sadiq, the Speaker of the National Assembly, he emphasized the critical need to comply with the updated Election Act, particularly concerning the allocation of reserved seats. He highlighted that assembly members who failed to include a party certificate with their nomination papers would be classified as independents and prohibited from switching party affiliations afterwards.
The latest party position from the National Assembly shows PTI members now listed under the Sunni Ittehad Council, with PML-N holding 110 seats and PPP holding 69, among other distributions to various parties. In his letter, Ayaz Sadiq reaffirmed that the Supreme Court’s decisions under the previous act were invalid, asserting that the amended Election Act must guide current procedural adherence.
