Islamabad: The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday observed that even though two of the country’s prime ministers were killed, no outcome of the investigations had come to the surface so far. How then, it asked, could the outcome of the investigation into the anti-judiciary banners case surface?

The court disposed of the anti-judiciary banners case on the completion of the police investigation and submission of its report in the case stating that action was taken against all the 12 accused with a further submission that whatever the police could do in the investigation, it had done and there was no further need to investigate the case.

A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Ijaz Afzal Khan, disposed of the case after the government informed the court that action was taken against all the 12 accused and there was no need to further investigate the case.

“According to circumstances, nobody was nominated and no finger was pointed towards someone in the instant case which is necessary hence in view of the details, the case is disposed of,” the court ruled in its order.

Deputy Attorney General Sajid Ilyas Bhatti informed the court that in some reports, there were eight accused while in another, the accused were four. However, he submitted that actually there were 12 accused in the case against whom action was taken and there was no need of further investigation in the matter.

Justice Ijaz Afzal observed that the number of accused does not matter when there is no substance in the report. The court asked the Investigation Officer Ahmed Iqbal as to whether the findings were true. The investigation officer replied in the affirmative adding that whatever material they had collected in the instant case was sufficient and they had submitted a challan in the court.

Advocate Tauseef Asif, one of the petitioners in the anti-judiciary banners case, however, submitted that it was poor performance on the part of the police as neither footage of the monitoring cameras were taken from the scene nor statements of the policemen deputed at the sight were recorded.

“This seems to be an eyewash,” Asif said adding that it was a question of the integrity of the country.

Justice Ijaz Afzal Khan remarked that earlier two prime ministers were killed but there was no outcome of the investigation so far, how then could the outcome of the investigation into this instant case surface.

Justice Ijaz Afzal asked Tauseef Asif whether he knows someone or the name of anyone in the instant case. Tauseef Asif replied that it was not his job. Meanwhile, the court disposed of the case.
