Jimmy Donaldson, known as MrBeast, announced on Sunday via X (formerly Twitter) that he has become the most subscribed YouTuber, surpassing the Indian music label T-Series.
In his celebratory post, MrBeast declared that he had “avenged” fellow YouTuber PewDiePie, attaching an image showing the latest subscriber counts.
MrBeast’s channel boasts 267 million subscribers, edging out T-Series, which has 266 million. His victory note expressed a long-standing rivalry: “After 6 years, we have finally avenged PewDiePie.” This reference highlights his support for PewDiePie against T-Series, emphasizing a symbolic win for content creators over corporate channels.
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, was among the first to congratulate MrBeast, commenting, “Wow, congrats!” on the post. The win has also moved fans, with one user commenting, “I’m literally shaking and crying right now; I can’t believe we finally did it.”
Adding to the competitive spirit, last month, MrBeast challenged the CEO of T-Series to a boxing match as he neared surpassing the channel’s subscriber count. He made this challenge public by posting an image of the narrowing subscriber gap on X, further stirring the rivalry narrative.
The backstory of this digital competition includes Swedish YouTuber PewDiePie, real name Felix Kjellberg, who was once the world’s highest-earning YouTuber, known for his video game commentaries. He previously led the most subscribed channel before controversies 2017 involving inappropriate references led Disney to sever ties with him.
In 2020, PewDiePie stepped back from posting content on YouTube when he had 102 million subscribers.
