Mohamed Salah urged Liverpool to restore their attacking identity after a 4-2 defeat by Aston Villa on Saturday left their Champions League qualification hopes under pressure.
Aston Villa moved into fourth place with 62 points from 37 games after the win, while Liverpool stayed on 59 points.
Salah wrote on X that Liverpool had gone “from doubters to believers” and then to champions, adding that the latest defeat was painful and not what supporters deserved.
The Egyptian forward said he wanted Liverpool to return to the “heavy metal attacking team” that opponents feared. His remarks referred to the style built under former manager Juergen Klopp, who led Liverpool to the 2019 Champions League title and their first Premier League crown.
Salah also said Champions League qualification for next season remained the “bare minimum” for Liverpool.
The comments came during a difficult season under manager Arne Slot. Salah’s relationship with Slot came under strain earlier in the campaign after the forward missed three straight matches.
Liverpool hosts Brentford on the final day of the season. Slot’s side sit four points ahead of Bournemouth, who have a game in hand, with one Champions League spot still available.
