A five-judge bench of the Supreme Court, yesterday asked all provincial law officers to submit their stance on a set of questions framed by the court while hearing the case of 35 prisoners who had gone missing from a military internment centre in Malakand.
Headed by Justice Nasirul Mulk, the bench issued notices to the advocates general of Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan to assist the court in determining the answers to the questions framed earlier. Advocate General Balochistan Abdul Lateef Yousufzai is already on court notice, but is currently on a general adjournment until June 27 because he is abroad.
The notices were issued at the request of Attorney General Salman Aslam Butt, who argued that the input of all the provincial law officers was necessary since the matter called for interpretation of criminal law.
