Minab, Iran: A U.S. military strike hit a school in Minab, killing 156–175 civilians, including at least 120 children and 26 female teachers, according to preliminary reports from humanitarian groups.
The strike, categorised as a “triple-tap,” first hit the main classroom at 10:00 AM, followed by the prayer room and courtyard where students and teachers had gathered for safety.
Eyewitnesses said the school principal stayed inside to guide the youngest students to safety and perished alongside many staff members.
Preliminary DoD findings indicate outdated intelligence was used in targeting. The building had been part of an IRGC compound prior to 2016, but operated as a clearly marked civilian school for years.
Concerns have emerged about AI-assisted targeting systems that may have flagged historical coordinates without human verification. U.S. lawmakers have demanded transparency on target vetting logs.
The UN Human Rights Council described the strike as a “visceral horror” and is considering a formal resolution on accountability. Amnesty International documented the event as a prima facie war crime, citing violations of the Principle of Distinction.
Ongoing memorials, dubbed “Angels of Minab,” highlight global outrage and the humanitarian impact of flawed high-tech warfare, underscoring the consequences of using outdated or AI-flagged intelligence in populated areas.
