The co-hosts had already secured first place in Group A. They finished with three wins from three after second-half goals from Mateo Chavez, Julian Quinones and Alvaro Fidalgo. The match stayed goalless until the 55th minute at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City.
Luis Romo won the ball in midfield and found full-back Mateo Chavez. Chavez moved past a challenge and side-footed his finish beyond goalkeeper Matej Kovar.
Mexico doubled the lead six minutes later. Seventeen-year-old Gilberto Mora carried the ball deep into Czech territory and released Jorge Sanchez. Sanchez’s effort caused a scramble near the goal. Julian Quinones followed up and poked the ball in for his second goal of the tournament.
Mexico made several changes after already sealing qualification. Striker Raul Jimenez started on the bench, while Mora began in midfield.
The Czech Republic needed a result to keep its knockout hopes alive. Denis Visinsky missed an early chance when he dragged a shot wide from 10 metres.
Mexico’s first shot came after 35 minutes. Centre back Israel Reyes tried an overhead kick, but the effort drifted wide.
