Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Higher Education Minister Meena Khan Afridi was offloaded at Bacha Khan International Airport in Peshawar on Sunday, as he was about to leave for Germany.
Officials from the Federal Investigation Agency stopped the provincial minister from travelling abroad. However, the agency has not specified an official reason for the travel restriction.
Mina Khan Afridi said FIA immigration officials stopped him at the airport and prevented him from travelling abroad. This happened despite a Peshawar High Court order.
In a message posted on X, Afridi said he had been invited to the University of Tübingen in Germany. There, discussions on several matters related to universities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and their students had moved forward. Moreover, these discussions needed to be finalised.
He expressed regret that, according to him, the High Court’s order was not followed. He also said the decision had affected the youth of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Furthermore, the planned visit was linked to academic and institutional progress for students in the province.
Meena Khan Afridi was travelling to Germany on behalf of the Higher Education Department. He was scheduled to visit the University of Tubingen.
