Maulana Fazal Rehman has publicly declared that his advisory council has directed him not to support the government or endorse the proposed constitutional amendments. This revelation came during a meeting with a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) delegation that included Salman Akram Raja, Hamid Raza, and Ikhwan Zada Hussain.
Maulana Fazal Rehman articulated in the meeting, “My advisory council has advised against aligning with the government and rejecting the constitutional amendments. I am conscious of the ongoing issues. We intend to counter any unconstitutional measures in Parliament through our votes.”
He further stipulated that drafts or proposals would only be considered once they are officially received. “We can only discuss the drafts once they are in our possession,” he insisted.
The discussion also touched on broader topics, such as constitutional amendments and the Practice and Procedure Act, reflecting the country’s current political landscape.
Commenting on the situation, JUI-F Senator Kamran Murtaza told the media, “The draft for constitutional amendments is still under preparation. We remain in the opposition but are open to collaborating on legislation that benefits society.”
Before the meeting, Sahibzada Hamid Raza of the Sunni Ittehad Council shared, “We plan to discuss political matters, including the government’s proposed constitutional amendments. Unlike before, forced actions against people will not occur. We have informed the government that our parliamentary strength is solid.”
Post-meeting, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja provided an optimistic view, claiming, “Maulana Fazal Rahman is in favour of the constitutional amendments. We aim to evolve Pakistan into a welfare state. We are growing as a public movement, and figures like Maulana Fazal Rahman are expected to join us.” He also noted that constructive discussions had occurred with Maulana Fazal Rahman.
In further developments, PTI has named Sheikh Waqas Akram as the party’s Secretary of Information and Raoof Hassan as the head of the policy think tank, following directives from the party founder.
PTI’s strategic efforts to solidify its influence within the National Assembly by adhering to the amended Election Act and ensuring party loyalty. Collaborating with significant political figures like Maulana Fazal Rahman underscores PTI’s dedication to upholding democratic principles and fostering effective governance.
