Washington, D.C.: Conservative commentator Mark Levin cautioned that Iran’s leadership would eventually resume nuclear ambitions despite any agreement with the United States on Fox News, Friday, May 8, 2026.
Levin described Iran as a “revolutionary regime” whose actions are ideologically and divinely directed. He argued that past patterns since the 1979 revolution show Tehran will return to nuclear development even after deals.
He expressed concern that future U.S. administrations, particularly Democratic ones, might not enforce any agreement reached with Tehran. As a result, long-term compliance could be undermined.
Recent reports from Axios and Reuters indicate the U.S. and Iran are negotiating a one-page, 14-point memorandum via Pakistani mediators. The draft would halt Iran’s nuclear enrichment. It would also lift certain sanctions and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. In addition, there is a 30-day window for a final comprehensive deal.
Levin called the reported draft “disastrous,” warning that it could strengthen the Iranian regime. Furthermore, it could intensify internal repression and weaken Israel politically. Conservative commentator Hugh Hewitt also criticised the deal as “terrible,” advocating permanent restrictions on uranium enrichment.
The urgency of talks follows Operation Epic Fury, a U.S.–Israeli campaign launched in February 2026 that damaged nuclear sites, including Natanz and Fordow. Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz has affected global fuel prices.
Pakistan has played a key role as mediator, hosting delegations in Islamabad and facilitating back-channel diplomacy. This comes as direct U.S.–Iran talks remain stalled.
As of May 9, 2026, Iran had not provided a final response, and U.S. officials, including Secretary Rubio, expected a reply imminently. The Trump administration has indicated that failure to comply could resume military strikes at a higher intensity.
