On Monday, the Lahore High Court (LHC) ordered all schools to re-register within a month, emphasizing the importance of following the school bus policy. Failure to comply will lead to suspended registrations.
During a session addressing petitions concerning smog-related issues and mitigation efforts, LHC Justice Shahid Karim issued this order.
Additionally, the court directed the Director-General of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) to evaluate the city’s traffic conditions and devise a plan to alleviate road congestion, especially to combat smog. Justice Karim praised the government’s anti-smog initiatives but insisted on stronger enforcement measures. He declared, “Environmental protection is a critical issue, and we cannot afford further delays.”

During the proceedings, Secretary of School Education Khalid Nazir outlined new regulatory proposals for private schools. According to these guidelines, school registration will be contingent upon the provision of bus services, and this requirement will also apply to all newly established schools.
Justice Karim expressed deep concern about the school transportation issue, stressing the need to swiftly implement these regulations to prevent problems in the upcoming season.
The court emphasized the poor enforcement of traffic regulations near bus stops and residential zones along Multan Road, calling for prompt measures to rectify these shortcomings.
