Lahore High Court (LHC) rejected an intra-court appeal filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) seeking disqualification of Nawaz Sharif and Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan as Prime Minister and Interior Minister respectively.
The petition was filed by Vice President of PTI Lahore wing Gohar Nawaz Sindhu. It was stated in the petition that PM Sharif and Interior Minister Nisar lied about the role of Pakistan Army as a mediator in the ongoing political crisis in the country and the military was tried to be defamed.
It was further stated that the two leaders do not meet the conditions stated in the Article 62 and 63 of the constitution for an individual to hold a public office.
A two member bench comprising of Justice Ijaz-Ul-Ahsan and Justice Faisal Zaman heard the intra-court appeal of PTI. Justice Ijaz said that the issue is based on the choice of words by the two leaders.
The court remarked that the leaders are immunized for their statements in the Parliament and the statements cannot be challenged. The court after listening to the arguments dismissed the appeal.
