Kyrie Irving, a free agent, may continue to play alongside Luka Doncic at the Dallas Mavericks. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the 31-year-old point guard favours signing a multi-year contract with the Mavericks.
He highlights that “the market for Irving, legitimate places he would leave Dallas for with a certain sense and space for him, is extremely limited, perhaps almost nil.”
It seems that Irving may prioritize signing a longer-term contract over a shorter one that offers more money. Having been traded from the Brooklyn Nets to the Mavericks last season, Irving has shown remarkable performance, averaging 27 points, five rebounds, and six assists in the 20 games he played with the Dallas franchise.
Deandre Ayton Might Join the Mavericks’ Roster
In addition to Irving, another name that has surfaced within the Mavericks’ sphere are Deandre Ayton, the Phoenix Suns’ centre and the first pick in the 2018 draft. Marc Stein suggests securing Ayton could require the Mavericks to trade players such as Tim Hardaway Jr., Richaun Holmes, and JaVale McGee.
Chris Haynes from Turner Sports, reporting for Bleacher Report, provided information about the negotiations between the Suns and Mavericks for Ayton. He highlighted that Phoenix doesn’t want to include JaVale McGee in the deal.
This season, 24-year-old, 2.13 meter tall Deandre Ayton has averaged 18 points and ten rebounds per game, further indicating his potential worth to the Mavericks.
