Defence Minister Khawaja Asif warned of an “inevitable” military confrontation with India on Geo News, citing escalating tensions and Indian aggression, including water supply restrictions. The stark alert follows a high-level security briefing amid fears of hostilities.

On Tuesday’s Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Saath on Geo News, Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif declared a military clash with India seems “inevitable” due to rising regional tensions, as reported by Dawn. “Briefings indicate Indian hostilities could erupt at any moment,” he said, vowing that India would “pay a heavy price” for attempting to seize Pakistani territory. Asif sharply criticised India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, warning, “If India blocks our water, they will drown in it. We will destroy any structures stopping our rivers.”

The minister’s remarks come amid heightened alertness, with posts on X reflecting public concern over potential conflict. Asif’s statements signal Pakistan’s readiness to counter perceived Indian provocations, particularly after the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which India baselessly linked to Pakistan.

Earlier on May 6, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) headquarters, joined by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Asif, and armed forces chiefs, per a PM Office statement cited by The Express Tribune. The briefing detailed Pakistan’s security posture, focusing on “preparedness against conventional threats” given India’s “increasingly assertive posture” along the eastern border. The visit underscores Pakistan’s strategic response to India’s actions, including border closures and treaty suspensions post-Pahalgam.
