The Khairpur honour killing case has sparked outrage in Sindh after a 22-year-old woman was shot dead in what police described as a so-called karo kari killing in Khairpur district.
The victim, Khalida, wife of Rashid Chandio, was killed in Tando Masti Khan after people accused her of karo kari with a man from the same community. The report says the killing took place in front of a crowd after an alleged jirga ordered her death.
Eyewitnesses recorded videos of the incident on their mobile phones, which later spread across social media. The footage shows the accused opening fire on Khalida, killing her at the scene.
The report also says bystanders did not intervene or try to take her to a hospital. That inaction drew additional anger online and deepened public concern over the role of silent spectators in such attacks.
Police Make Arrests After Woman Is Shot Dead
Police have registered a murder case against four suspects and have already arrested two of them. Authorities are continuing raids to capture the remaining accused.
The case has now become a major law enforcement test in Sindh, where officials face growing pressure to hold every person involved in the killing accountable.
Provincial Minister for Women Development Shaheena Sher Ali took notice of the murder and strongly condemned it, calling the killing deeply tragic and unacceptable.
She also raised concern over the indifference of people present at the scene and said the role of silent spectators in such incidents is equally alarming. The minister has sought a detailed report from the DIG Sukkur and directed authorities to take strict action against everyone involved.
The minister also highlighted the Sindh government’s safe houses and Dar-ul-Amans for women facing violence.
She urged women in distress not to feel alone and to seek help through the Women’s Development Department’s helpline, 1094, or through nearby offices. That appeal places the case within a wider effort to push women toward official protection services before violence escalates.
