ISLAMABAD: The NADRA iris scan service is now free at all registration centres across Pakistan, with children aged three and above eligible for iris enrolment.
The National Database and Registration Authority announced the nationwide availability through a public awareness message. It urged citizens to visit their nearest registration centre and update their biometric records. Parents can also bring children aged three or older for iris registration.
Iris recognition records the unique patterns in a person’s eye. NADRA said the technology adds another layer of authentication and can make future identity verification more accurate and secure. The service is free at NADRA offices nationwide.
The federal government amended the National Identity Card Rules in December 2025 to recognise iris and facial scans as valid biometric identifiers alongside fingerprints. The change established the legal basis for Pakistan’s multi-biometric verification system.

Earlier reports said NADRA had initially deployed iris-recognition technology at selected centres in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi. The latest advisory indicates that the facility has expanded nationwide.
