Karachi Engulfed by Severe Traffic Jams Due to Protests and Construction

Karachi is currently grappling with heavy traffic congestion affecting major roads across the city. Protests and construction work have led to prolonged traffic jams, transforming minutes-long journeys into hours-long ordeals.

A protest over water and power supply issues near Teen Hatti has disrupted traffic. Roads from Teen Hatti to PIB Colony are blocked, further complicating traffic movement. Additionally, Karachi’s traffic police are redirecting traffic from Lasbela towards Liaquatabad to alleviate congestion.

On Abul Hasan Asfahani Road, there’s substantial traffic heading towards University Road. Notable jams stretch from Gulshan Chowrangi to Maskan Chowrangi and along Disco Bakery Road towards the university, making it difficult for residents to travel short distances.

As December 14 approaches, the traffic situation worsens due to increased shopping activity and ongoing events. Abdullah Haroon Road near Zainab Market is closed to manage the heavy influx of shoppers, as the Christmas season and cooler weather attract more people to the markets.

Tariq Road, Bahadurabad, Saddar, and Zainab Market are particularly congested. The areas around Gul Plaza, Jamia Cloth, and Fawara Chowk are also heavily clogged with vehicles and shoppers. To help ease the congestion, traffic has been diverted from Fawara Chowk to Din Muhammad Wafai Road.

On Rashid Minhas Road, accumulated sewage water is causing major delays, particularly affecting traffic towards Millennium Mall. The flow is sluggish, complicating commutes towards NIPA.

The Expo Center, currently hosting a book fair, is another hotspot for traffic snarls. To manage the flow of visitors, the traffic police are directing vehicles around the area and conducting vehicle checks.

Similarly, near the National Stadium, slow-moving traffic is reported towards Gharibabad, exacerbated by the high volume of vehicles and local events.

Motorists should consider alternative routes and allow additional travel time to circumvent these disruptions. The Traffic Police are actively working to manage the situation and ensure smoother traffic flow throughout the city.
