In a heart-wrenching road incident in Karachi, a speeding dumper struck a motorcycle in Shah Latif Town near Mateen Complex, tragically killing a 24-year-old man and severely injuring his 13-year-old sister. The accident occurred as the siblings were celebrating a personal achievement.
The young man, identified as Hasnain, died at the scene, while his sister Hijab, a talented martial arts athlete who had just clinched first place in a competition, suffered injuries. The siblings were en route to a celebratory meal when the devastating collision happened. Hijab’s victory earlier in the day turned to sorrow under the wheels of the reckless dumper.
Hasnain, the sole son in his family, was an intermediate student. His father works in Saudi Arabia, leaving the family based in Landhi. Hijab is in the seventh grade. As Hasnain’s friend, Syed Amees, expressed, the loss has deeply affected their family and community.
Government Response to Rising Dumper Accidents
In response to a series of dumpster accidents, the Sindh government has banned dumper traffic during daytime hours in Karachi. Effective immediately, dumpers can only enter the city between 11:00 PM and 6:00 AM. This decision aims to reduce road accidents and enhance traffic flow within the city.
Chief Secretary Sindh, Asif Hyder Shah, held an emergency meeting to address the growing concerns related to traffic safety. Key attendees included the Inspector General of Sindh Police, the Karachi Commissioner, Additional IG Karachi, the Secretary of Transport, DIG Traffic, and other significant officials. The meeting focused on strategizing effective solutions to improve road safety and prevent such tragedies in the future.
