The K2 Airways crash probe cannot enter its technical phase until search teams recover the cargo aircraft’s black box and engine from the sea off Karachi, investigators said.
The 11-member investigation team returned to Islamabad after spending two days examining debris recovered from the crash site in Karachi, Sindh.
Air Commodore Ahsan Noman of the Bureau of Aircraft Safety Investigation led the team, which inspected sections of the aircraft’s wings and wreckage from its rear portion.
Investigators also took custody of the aircraft’s maintenance records and other flight-related documents for examination.

The team said the material recovered so far was insufficient to establish the cause of the crash. It will return to Karachi after the flight data recorder is located.
Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Maritime Security Agency teams continued underwater search-and-rescue operations.
The operation is focused on finding the black box, engine, other critical aircraft components and five crew members who remain missing.
