Italy has allocated a special quota for 10,500 Pakistani workers over the next three years, outgoing Italian Ambassador to Pakistan Marilina Armellin said in Islamabad.
Armellin announced the quota during a ceremony marking Italian National Day and Republic Day. She said Italy had also issued more than 3,200 visas to Pakistani students for the 2025-26 academic year.
The ambassador said the visa figures reflected growing cooperation between Pakistan and Italy, particularly in education and labour mobility.
Pakistan and Italy maintain broad-based ties in trade, culture, science and technology, and defence cooperation. Existing agreements and memoranda of understanding also cover cooperation between universities and think tanks.
Pakistan’s embassy in Rome has also highlighted labour opportunities for Pakistani workers in Italy, including the reported 10,500-job quota.
President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday extended greetings to Italian President Sergio Mattarella and the people of Italy on Republic Day, observed annually on June 2.
