The Islamabad Police have come under fire for detaining a van carrying female medical college students after the driver failed to produce necessary documents.
The incident unfolded at the Old High Court intersection, where the van full of students was halted. Despite the driver’s pleas to allow him to drop off the students at their homes, the police decided to impound the vehicle and take it to the Ramna Police Station. Subsequently, students were stranded on the road opposite the station, leading to considerable distress among them and their families waiting for them.
Some students, equipped with mobile phones, could contact their families, who promptly arrived to escort them home. Concerned parents subsequently contacted Senator Irfan Siddiqui, calling for a thorough investigation into the incident and requesting that the matter be escalated to higher authorities.
Responding to these concerns, Senator Irfan Siddiqui has urged the Minister of Interior to investigate the police’s actions. He highlighted the disregard for the student’s safety and the distress caused to them and their families. He criticized the police’s handling of the situation as unacceptable.
Senator has also announced to address this issue in the Senate to ensure such incidents are not repeated, aiming to establish accountability and safeguard the well-being of citizens.
