Iran and Oman held the first Iran-Oman Hormuz Committee meeting in Muscat on Monday to discuss future governance of the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian officials said.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said the meeting reviewed current issues linked to the strait and its future management under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.
Gharibabadi said on X that the talks also covered the sovereign rights of coastal states. Anadolu reported that Gharibabadi met Abdulaziz al-Hinai, Oman’s ambassador-at-large, during the Muscat talks.
The Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding was signed on June 18, 2026, according to Iranian officials. Iranian officials said the MoU ended the recent conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran would continue to meet its responsibilities under the Islamabad MoU.
Araghchi said Iran would maintain cooperation with Oman and consult other regional countries on the strategic waterway.
The talks followed Araghchi’s visit to Baghdad, Iraq, where he called for a regional security framework based on cooperation, mutual trust and dialogue.
