Accelerated Understanding AI launched Tuesday with a physics-focused model that handled 5 trillion pieces of data in a single prompt during company testing.
Founders told Reuters that co-founders Anima Anandkumar and Benedikt Jenik built the system around neural operators rather than the Transformer architecture used by many language models.
Anandkumar, a professor of computing and mathematical sciences at the California Institute of Technology, said the system focuses on predicting physical phenomena across space and time rather than generating language.
The company said its test workload was about 5 million times larger than the amount of information typically handled by flagship models from Google and Anthropic.

That comparison represents the startup’s claim about its system rather than an independent benchmark. Accelerated Understanding is initially targeting enterprise customers rather than consumers.
The founders said potential applications include semiconductor design, robotics, extreme-weather forecasting and geological analysis for energy companies.

For chip development, the company aims to model materials, temperatures and other physical conditions. It says this approach could reduce reliance on repeated laboratory testing.

Anandkumar previously worked as a scientist at Amazon and spent five years as a director at Nvidia. Jenik is an AI infrastructure engineer.
The pair had also discussed a possible collaboration in late 2024 with investor and biotech entrepreneur Vik Bajaj, who later co-founded the Jeff Bezos-backed Project Prometheus, according to meeting records reviewed by Reuters. They continued building Accelerated Understanding independently instead.
