Apple intends to expand its iPhone range by introducing the iPhone 17 Air in Fall 2025 and preparing to release foldable devices in 2026. The iPhone 17 Air, designed with a slimmer profile and reduced features, aims to provide a more cost-effective option for consumers.
According to a recent Wall Street Journal report, the iPhone 17 Air will feature a thinner build and simplified camera system to maintain a lower price than the iPhone 17 Pro models. This move marks Apple’s first introduction of a new iPhone model since the iPhone 14 Plus, signalling a strategic direction towards reviving market growth and expanding consumer choice.
Apple expects the iPhone 17 Air to measure approximately 6mm thick, a reduction from the current models’ 8mm profile. It will likely feature a single rear camera equipped with a 48-megapixel sensor and maintain the 2x telephoto functions present in the iPhone 16. These changes reflect Apple’s commitment to enhancing accessibility to technology while preserving core features.
Anticipating the Foldable iPhone
Alongside the iPhone 17 Air, Apple is developing two foldable devices: a foldable iPhone and a new product designed to replace laptops. Both are slated for a 2026 release. The foldable iPhone will likely boast a larger display than the iPhone 16 Pro Max, while the second device is expected to unfold to reveal a 19-inch screen.

These innovative projects reflect Apple’s ongoing experimentation with designs and functionalities, including past concepts with outward-facing displays when folded. The current focus, however, is on a more traditional foldable design with an inward-facing screen, addressing the complexities of display covers and hinge mechanisms.
