Apple said iOS 27 performance upgrades will make iPhone apps launch up to 30% faster, while Photos and AirDrop will also see major speed gains.
The company detailed the improvements after announcing iOS 27 at WWDC 2026. Apple’s iOS preview says new photos can load in the Photos library up to 70% faster, while AirDrop transfers can run up to 80% faster.
Apple also improved Low Power Mode to make it more useful during daily iPhone use. It said the Camera app should open faster while using less power in that mode.
Early testers have reported a smoother Low Power Mode experience. The brief said the gains appear strongest on newer iPhone models, while older devices may still feel slower.
Apple also said iOS 27 improves how the iPhone switches between Wi-Fi and cellular connections. Wired reported that Apple focused on performance and longevity for older iPhones, with support extending to devices as old as the iPhone 11.

The developer beta is available now, while Apple is expected to release iOS 27 publicly later in 2026. Wired reported that the public beta is due in July
