Four newly elected independent members of the Punjab Assembly have declared their support for the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), which won only two seats in the National Assembly during the February 8 general elections.
These members, identified as Ghazanfar Abbas Cheena, Hafiz Tahir, Zahid Bhutta, and Awais Dareshak, announced their allegiance after a meeting with IPP’s President Abdul Aleem Khan, expressing their trust in his leadership and the party’s vision for national stability.
Abdul Aleem Khan welcomed this development, indicating the potential for further growth in party membership as discussions with an additional 10 to 15 assembly members are underway. He emphasized the critical role of robust economic policies for the nation’s prosperity and committed to initiating immediate relief for the impoverished.
The political landscape is witnessing increased activity as major parties, including the PML-N and PPP, engage vigorously in negotiations to attract independent members-elect, aiming to strengthen their representation in National and provincial assemblies.
In related news, the PML-N announced the induction of six more members from the Punjab Assembly, enhancing its legislative strength.
The new PML-N affiliates include Sultan Bajwa from Nankana Sahib’s PP-132, Shazia Tareen from Lodhran, Mehmood Qadir Laghari and Hanif Patafi from Dera Ghazi Khan, Taimur Lali from Chiniot, and Ali Asgar from Leh, as shared in a recent post on the social media platform X.
