Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended Chairman Naqvi for his principled position on the Champions Trophy. In their meeting, Naqvi assured the Prime Minister of the PCB’s preparedness to host the tournament, effectively representing the interests of 240 million Pakistanis at the ICC.
In a significant development, the ICC and the PCB have agreed on a hybrid model for the Champions Trophy and other global tournaments through 2027. This model will allow Pakistan and India to host their matches at ICC events in the other country at a neutral venue. This agreement emerged from discussions between ICC Chief Jay Shah and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi in Dubai.
This hybrid model forms a key part of a wider strategy incorporating three significant ICC events scheduled from 2024 to 2027, taking place in Pakistan and India: the Champions Trophy in Pakistan (February 2025), the Women’s ODI World Cup in India (2025), and the Men’s T20 World Cup jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka (2026).
