In a landmark achievement for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) within the Pakistan Army, Helen Mary Roberts has been promoted to brigadier, becoming the first female officer from the minority Christian community to attain this level.
Brigadier Roberts, a part of the Army Medical Corps, was among the officers elevated to brigadiers and full colonels as per the decisions of the Selection Board.
Pakistan Army’s historical promotion was highlighted during a Christmas celebration at Christ Church in Rawalpindi by General Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff, who praised the Christian community for its significant contributions to the nation’s development in education, healthcare, philanthropy, and national defence. General Munir emphasized the vital role of interfaith harmony in realizing the vision of Quaid-e-Azam for a unified and progressive Pakistan.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif also congratulated Brigadier Roberts, acknowledging her as a historic figure within the military for being the first woman from a minority background to achieve such a rank. He lauded her for exemplifying the potential of Pakistani women to excel across various professional fields.
“The entire nation, including myself, congratulated her,” stated Prime Minister Sharif. He commended Brigadier Roberts for her dedication and hard work, remarking on her role as a source of inspiration for young women in Pakistan, particularly those from minority communities who serve the country excellently.
