Police upgraded the Hania Ahmed murder case to Section 302 after new evidence emerged in the killing of the 9-year-old Pakistani-origin Australian citizen in Chakwal, Punjab.
Police sources said the case was first registered under Section 322, which covers culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Investigators later added Section 302 after forensic analysis and further evidence.
Sources said a CCD official named Shuja has been arrested, and the weapon allegedly used in the firing was recovered from his possession. Shuja was sent to jail on judicial remand after court proceedings.
The incident occurred when a Pakistani-origin family based in Australia came under fire after a reported robbery incident in Chakwal. Hania Ahmed was killed, while her father Adil Ahmed and brother Affan suffered serious injuries.

Authorities initially said the firing occurred during a police chase involving suspected robbers. Later CCTV footage and forensic evidence reportedly indicated possible involvement of CCD personnel.
Punjab police distanced themselves from the investigation and said such cases fall under the jurisdiction of the CCD. The District Police Officer, Chakwal, said that local police registered the FIR, but CCD made the arrests and is handling the inquiry.
Senior police officials in Rawalpindi, including Regional Police Officer Babar Sarfraz, did not respond when contacted about the case.
Citizens and civil society groups have called on Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to take immediate notice.
Two suspects were killed in an alleged encounter linked to the same case. Chakwal Police, the RPO office and the Inspector General’s office had not issued an official clarification.
