The government of Pakistan is utilising all its resources to seek custody of Uzair Baloch, leader of the now defunct Peoples Aman Committee and a Lyari-based gang. This was revealed by the police before the Sindh High Court (SHC)

The police disclosed this information in a report submitted to a high court bench in a kidnapping for ransom and murder case in 2011 by a group of Lyari gangsters allegedly run by Baloch.

Headed by Justice Abdul Rasool Memon, the bench was hearing a petition filed by Aslam Khan Ghori, who had approached the court seeking the recovery of his son, Irfan Khan Ghori.

At the last hearing, the judges had called for a fresh progress report in the case from the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC)/Crime Investigation Department (CID).

The petitioner had alleged that Irfan was kidnapped from Pak Colony on August 17, 2011, and killed by his captors despite the payment of ransom.

Inspector Amjad Kalyar, who is investigating the case, said in his report that the killing took place on August 18, adding that on the same date, a gang dispute had also taken place in the city.

His sources claimed that the all absconding accused had left Sindh and gone underground in Balochistan

The official said that on the court’s directives, the CID DIG had given instructions for recovery of Irfan’s body.

Inspector Kalyar further stated that through the media, the police found out that Baloch had been arrested outside the country.

He said that the government was doing its best to gain custody of Uzair Baloch for a trial. “If he is handed over to the Karachi police, I will interrogate the accused and ask him to recover the missing person’s body,” he said, adding that with the the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee and other law enforcement agencies all efforts were being made to arrest the accused and recover the body.

Taking the report on record, the judges directed the investigation officer to submit another progress report by the next date of hearing.

Baloch was arrested by the Dubai police in December last year.
