Islamabad: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif categorically said on Wednesday that his government would not support motions seeking to de-seat Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers.
Speaking in the National Assembly, the prime minister asked Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) to withdraw their resolutions against the PTI.
He, however, deplored the language PTI chairman Imran Khan used against Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Tuesday.
Nawaz Sharif said democracy and the country suffer when decisions are taken on the streets. “We have to maintain atmosphere of unanimity.”
The prime minister said Parliament was the only appropriate forum to resolve issues whether they are small or big.
Applauding the Supreme Court decisions on multiple petitions against the 18th and the 21st constitutional amendments, he said the apex court has declared military courts legal which would discourage terrorists.
“Extra ordinary circumstances require extra ordinary decisions,” the prime minister said.
He said today was an important day for Pakistan’s politics, democracy and history, adding the country’s war against terrorism would benefit from the court’s decision.
