Gilgit, Gilgit-Baltistan: Gilgit Baltistan Election 2026 produced a split mandate, while Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf rejected tentative results and alleged rigging.
The elections for the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly were held on June 7, 2026.
The Pakistan Peoples Party led the early seat count but fell short of a simple majority. The initial counts showed PPP with 10 seats, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz with six and independents with five.
PTI alleged pre-poll engineering, administrative barriers, loss of its party symbol and discrepancies between Form 45 and Form 47 counts.

PTI leader Asad Qaiser accused state machinery of denying the party a level playing field by blocking senior leaders at checkpoints.
The party demanded re-polling in selected constituencies, including Rehmanpur in Astore, after refusing to accept early leads. The result broke the usual Gilgit-Baltistan pattern in which the party ruling in Islamabad secured a clear win.
The local voter concerns centred on load shedding, internet connectivity and infrastructure, including the Gilgit-Skardu road.
