A one-day strike in Germany has disrupted air travel, halting operations at 13 major airports.
The 24-hour walkout canceled hundreds of flights starting at midnight, stranding thousands of passengers. Public-sector workers, including ground staff and security personnel, are striking over ongoing pay disputes, crippling key hubs like Frankfurt, Berlin, and Munich.

Frankfurt Airport, a top European hub, bore the brunt with 1,054 of its 1,116 scheduled flights scrapped. Berlin Airport saw no departures or arrivals, while Munich and Hamburg faced severe limits. Other affected airports include Cologne/Bonn, Bremen, Hannover, Dortmund, Leipzig/Halle, Stuttgart, and smaller sites like Weeze and Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden, where security staff joined the strike.

The walkout stems from two pay conflicts: one with airport security workers and another with federal and municipal employees. Talks resume Friday for government workers and March 26 for security staff. Travelers face delays and are urged to check flight statuses. Businesses relying on air transport also feel the sting as Germany’s skies stay quiet.
