Gautam Adani, chairman of Adani Group, visited the Maha Kumbh Mela last month and promised that his son’s wedding would embody simplicity and tradition.
True to his word, not only was Jeet Adani’s wedding to Diva, the daughter of diamond trader Jaimin Shah, a modest ceremony, but it also marked a monumental philanthropic pledge by Adani of Rs 10,000 crore towards various social initiatives.
Adani’s commitment aligns with his deeply held belief in seva, or service, which he describes as essential to his life philosophy: “Seva is meditation, prayer, and the divine.” This substantial donation will support infrastructure projects across the healthcare, education, and skill development sectors, enabling accessible, world-class services to all societal segments.
The wedding took place at the Belvedere Club located in the Adani Shantigram township of Ahmedabad. It was an intimate affair, characterized by traditional Gujarati customs, attended only by family and close friends. The event did not include prominent guests like politicians, celebrities, or industry leaders.
Jeet Adani manages Adani Airports, which includes six international airports and a new initiative in Navi Mumbai. He is recognized for his Engineering degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
Just days before the wedding, Gautam Adani unveiled Mangal Seva, a new initiative to assist newly married women with disabilities by providing each with Rs 10 lakh in financial support. This effort started with Jeet Adani meeting 21 beneficiary couples, symbolizing the family’s commitment to beginning marital life with community service.
In response to media speculation about the lavishness of the wedding, Gautam Adani had previously clarified at the Maha Kumbh Mela that the event would be far from a grand spectacle, emphasizing the family’s preference for simplicity and the importance of blessings over showmanship.
Gautam Adani’s decision to allocate such a significant donation during his son’s wedding exemplifies a shift towards integrating personal joy with societal benefit, setting a powerful example of philanthropy that prioritizes community welfare over personal gain. This approach celebrates the family’s milestones and contributes to lasting social impact, reinforcing the “Seva Over Self” ethos that Gautam Adani champions.
