The city police have foiled a major terror plot suspected of targeting Ashura processions and carrying out sectarian killings.
Crime Investigation Department officials launched a targeted raid in Kunwari Colony and arrested extremely dangerous militants during the operation.
Police recovered huge reserve of weapons, explosives-laden motorcycle and petrol bombs. A 7-kg of explosives was also detained from the possession of criminals.
According to police, terrorists had planned to carry out a suicide attack on Ashura processions. The arrested militants, identified as Azam Ahmed Sheikh, Shah Jahan, Imran Hussain, Farhan and Shakir, were also involved in sectarian killings.
