The federal government has decided to convene the National Assembly session for the federal budget 2026-27 on Monday, June 1. The budget is set to be presented later that week.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb will present the budget proposals separately in the National Assembly and the Senate, parliamentary sources told The News on Friday.
The government will summon the Senate session to consider the proposals in the first week of June.
Parliamentary sources said officials had scheduled the final National Assembly session of the current fiscal year for May 11. They added that the government had sent a summary of the session’s convening to the Presidency for approval.
The government has allocated four weeks for the budget’s passage in the lower house, with the process expected to conclude on June 28.
Officials will send the budget proposals to the Senate immediately after presenting them in the National Assembly. The upper house will have 15 days to finalise its recommendations.
The federal government will consider the Senate’s recommendations before granting final approval to the budget.
The Finance Ministry is preparing the budget with a focus on sustainable growth, climate-sensitive fiscal policy and a stronger tax base ahead of Pakistan’s planned exit from the International Monetary Fund programme in 2027.
The ministry issued the budget call circular in January to all ministries, seeking revised estimates for the outgoing year and budget estimates for the next fiscal year.
Sources said most ministries had submitted budget forms and project details. Meanwhile, review committee meetings were underway, and officials expected to finalise budget documents in the last week of May.
