The federal government has banned the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM), labelling it a threat to national peace and security. Under Section 11B of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997, this measure deems the movement “unlawful,” according to a notification from the Interior Ministry. The ministry highlighted the PTM’s significant risk to public order and safety.
Meanwhile, Manzoor Pashteen, PTM’s leader, received an invitation from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Chief Minister, Ali Amin Gandapur, to attend the forthcoming Pashtun Qaumi Jirga on October 11. During their meeting, Pashteen stressed the need for Pashtun unity. Gandapur endorsed the Pashtun cause and promised provincial government cooperation with the jirga. He also confirmed the government’s representation at the event.
Preparation for the Pashtun Qaumi Jirga is progressing in the Khyber tribal district. Pashteen announced that the venue setup is complete. The event will feature community and organisation participation, with dedicated tents for each group.
